There is an urgent need to build affordable rented housing and to create jobs!
The Construction sector can deliver the housing projects that Communities need and quickly create these jobs, whilst offering apprentice level training.
The added value to the economy will be £300 for each £100 of investment and tenants will further stimulate the economy, by their purchase of furniture and household goods.
The initial funding to builders should be from Government, which can recover its outlay from the rental income of tenants and utilise reserves, for the future regeneration of housing stock.
The title of these properties should remain in perpetuity with the Government to prevent a loss of housing stock, from sales to tenants.
Those willing to purchase homes can have their demands met by the private sector and this will reduce the overall housing shortage.
The greatest benefactors of a sustained build of Homes for Rent will be the younger generation which is more vulnerable to housing shortage, as they have have no leverage in the housing market, as first time buyers.
There should be a priority given to ex British Armed forces and British people in the allocation of rented homes.
